The Significance of Marriage
No matter how healthy or unhealthy your marriage is, we want to reframe its importance and clarify why you may be facing the issues you have. Marriage is intended to be a reflection of the triune God before the world! It’s not just a means of making you happy or fulfilling your need for companionship. Our misperception that matrimony is primarily about making us feel good is one of the reasons we face the challenges we have in our relationships.
Your coming together represents the ground work God was laying for the advancement of His kingdom here on earth and it is paramount to the wellness of your relationship that you perceive it that was. You see, He only created two institutions – Marriage and The Church. The creation of marriage proceeded the creation of the church so that God could use it as a foundational structure to build from. Two coming together as one in covenant relationship with the Father is the mirror image of the Holy Trinity of God the Father, the Holy Spirit as comforter, and Christ as Savior.
Genesis 1:27 (NIV) "So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them."
Marriage was not only the first institution God manifested, it was also the focus of Satan’s very first attack. Why? Because marriage is at the center of God’s purpose for mankind. Marriage is the beginning of a loving family, the backbone of healthy communities, the heart of thriving churches, and the centerpiece of a Godly world. There is no place where we can better illustrate what Christ-like, unconditional love looks like than within the framework of a Godly marriage.
With this in mind, think about the tensions between you and your fiancé or spouse and open yourself to the reality that the devil is at work when you are at odds. He knows how valuable your relationship can be if you allow God to use the same issues that drive a wedge between you to instead draw you closer to Him and to one another.
Your marriage isn’t about you. It’s truly all about God. It’s time you recognized that and started acting accordingly. We are here to help facilitate your growing understanding of God’s design and your role in it. Let us join you on your journey.
